A Taste of the Hill Country at Becker Vineyards
Did you know the Texas Hill Country is home to over 100 wineries and vineyards? While California might be America's wine-producing powerhouse, here in Central Texas, a different kind of viticulture magic unfolds. Wine growers in this region embrace the challenges and complexities of its unique terroir to bring you the best of Texas wine. Becker Vineyards in Stonewall, Texas, is a great place to get taste of what Lone Star State wines are all about. Add a vineyard visit to your itinerary when you plan your next getaway at Hotel Giles.
Arriving at the Becker Vineyards estate, you're greeted by 66 acres of lush vineyards stretching as far as the eye can see. They've come a long way from their first grape harvest in 1995, and today grow 11 varietals on the estate — from Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot to Syrah and Chardonnay. The winery is a 10,000-square-foot facility that is a striking reproduction of a late 19th century German stone barn, a prevalent style of the Texas Hill Country. Each year, Becker Vineyards produces over a hundred thousand cases of fine Texas wine.
There are several tasting bars, including the large main tasting room, the verandah, and the pavilion, where you can sample six of Becker's expertly crafted wines. You can also schedule a private tasting that includes a tour of the estate and a souvenier glass. As you sip, try the bold Tempranillo Reserve with its aroma of cedar and dark cherries. White wine drinkers might prefer the Viognier Reserve, a light wine aged in French oak barrels with notes of citrus and magnolia blossoms. Charcuterie and cheese boards are available to pair with any of the wine tasting options.
In addition to the rows and rows of grapevines, Becker Vineyards also has 500 lavender plants that bloom each spring. You can stroll along the field of lavender, poppies, and zinnias or sip a glass of wine in the pavilion as you enjoy their beauty and aromatic perfume. Better yet, come to Becker Vineyards for the 25th annual Lavender Fest on April 27-28, 2024. Against the backdrop of the blooming lavender fields, this two-day event features lavender luncheons, artisan vendors, art of food and wine pairings, live music, wine tasting, and concessions. It's a feast for the senses that perfectly complements the indulgence of Becker's renowned wines.
