Indulge in Food, Wine and Fun at Taste of Comfort
Avid travelers know that one of the best ways to immerse yourself in the local culture of a vacation destination is to break bread with the locals and feast on the regional cuisine. There's no better place to get a sampling of "Comfort food" than the annual Taste of Comfort. This fundraising event for the Comfort Library showcases the diverse food of the Hill Country — beyond our renowned Texas barbecue. And when you combine delicious food with local wine, brews and spirits, live music, and a festive atmosphere, you've got the makings for a great evening during your late September stay with us at Hotel Giles.
The origins of the Taste of Comfort date back several decades when a sit-down dinner and raffle were held in Comfort Park to raise funds for the library. That was in the 1970s and 80s, and since then, the annual event has undergone several transformations. Today, the Taste of Comfort is an elevated evening at Riven Rock Ranch that overlooks the beautiful Hill Country landscape. This year's event is set for Saturday, Sept. 30, with the doors opening at 5:30 p.m.
This unforgettable evening of food and drink brings together more than a dozen of our favorite Comfort-area purveyors. Among the restaurants, caterers, bakeries and sweet shops that will bring their mouthwatering flavors to the party are Flamingo Street, Michoacan A Pedir de Boca, La Calabria and Food for the Soul Bistro — just to name a few. Guests will move about the room throughout the evening tasting a menu that includes dishes like Thai noodles, shrimp and grits, and even a demonstration of fresh Italian pasta-making. Hill Country wineries, including Newsom Vineyards, Bending Branch Winery and Singing Water Vineyards, will sample their locally produced wines.
In addition to all of the delectable delights, Taste of Comfort will be jam-packed with fun including live music, silent and live auctions, and the always popular wine wall. The wine wall is huge decorative wall of donated wine bottles, all beautifully wrapped. Guests purchase tickets and select a bottle "blindly." The excitement is unwrapping the bottles to uncover your amazing vintage. All of the money raised throughout the evening and from Taste of Comfort ticket sales goes to support the operating budget of the Comfort Library, which first opened in 1956 and moved to its current location in the historic Arno Schwethelm Building in the 1982.
No matter what you're craving, you'll find it at Taste of Comfort — delicious food, elegant wines, lively entertainment and, best of all, good company. You'll get to feel what it's like to be a part of our tight-knit community while getting a real flavor for the Texas Hill Country. Book your stay with us at Hotel Giles and grab your Taste of Comfort tickets online.
